My world your world, its changing

I get assaulted by a deluge of news regarding the effects of climate change; floods in India, record heat waves in the US (Alaska, Arizona). I know drinking my flat white contributes to the destruction of orangutan habitat, and likely contributing to their extinction in the wild. Meanwhile I am a witness to the extinction of Maui and Hector’s dolphins through the use of inshore gill nets that trap dolphins so they drown. I know that the mere fact that I live these modern times means that I emit carbon, the driver of this wretched change. The Arctic is melting, the Antarctic is melting, but the stars still shoot through the sky.

I am a reluctant and horrified witness to all of this; the melting, the heat, the deaths, the fears, the storms, the creaking dying groaning rasping death of the world, and the painful birth cries of the new. The sound is loud in my ears. Tears appear. And I wonder what to do.

What should I do? How should I be? What is the right, the proper thing to do?
